Flying History
I started flying
in 1996 with the Oxford
University Gliding Club (OUGC),operating at RAF Bicester, Oxfordshire.
Training was provided by RAF pilots/instructors in ASK 21's towards
a BGA Gliding Certificate, which I obtained in 1999. After completing
a Bachelor of Arts degree (2000) I began training for my PPL at
Pilot Flight Training (PFT) at Oxford Airport (Kidlington), which
I obtained in April 2001. I also gained a Night Qualification and
passed the AOPA Aerobatics course at PFT after which I decided to
train for an ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot Licence) on a full time
basis. In June 2001 I enrolled on an approved modular course leading
to a CPL/IR(ME) with frozen ATPL at LidAir,
operating at Bromma Airport in Stockholm, Sweden.
I completed the JAR
ATPL theory course in Stockholm (Sweden) where I also obtained a
CPL/IR(ME). I also completed ground school for Bae Jetstream
31 with Bae Systems. I completed the MCC/CRM course at Oxford Air
Training School in August 2003 on the full motion B737-400 simulator
with EFIS, FMC and full visual display. In August 2005 I did the
Saab 340 type rating at SAS Flight Academy in Stockholm for Golden
Air (Finland). In January 2006 I completed the type rating for ATR
42/72 at ATC in Toulouse, France for Finnish Commuter Airlines where
I flew the ATR 42/72 as F/O before being upgraded to Captain in
2007. I have flown every model of the ATR 42 and 72 except the -600 series.
I hold a TRI qualification on the ATR 42/72.
I also hold FAA and
New Zealand Private Licences.
I have flown in various parts of the world including:
- UK (Flight training/Private flying)
- New Zealand (Private flying)
- Brazil (Bush flying)
- Belize (Scheduled and Sightseeing flights)
- Northern Europe (Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark)
- Central and Eastern Europe (Charter and ACMI)
- Africa (Equatorial Guinea, Scheduled flights)
